Unwind

I stopped reading City of ashes because I just pulling me in anymore, and also I heard good things from a book call Unwind. So I returned City of Ashes and picked up Unwind.

The book starts out telling you what being unwound mean. If you were order to be unwound, you would have your organize taken out and just would help with organ donations or medical research. Hearing this I thought that this book was going to be really gory, it still might be but I am only at the beginning so I don’t yet.

The Main Character is a boy named Connor Lassiter a sixteen year old boy whose parents signed the unwind order because of his constant fighting and getting thrown out of several schools. When he found out that his parents wanted him to be unwound he came up with the idea to run away so that he would prevent himself from being unwound. So in the middle of the night when his parents were sleeping he snuck out the back door and run. He ran for most of the night till he came to a truck stop, he came up with the idea to hind in the bed of one of the trucks. So when he saw one truck driver leave his truck to go to the bathroom he snuck in a hind. But it did not work because the truck driver saw him and confronted him. He told the truck driver we he was hiding, and saw that the driver had a fake arm.
“I was in an accident and lost my arm and had to get some new organize, and I got the organs from a kid that was unwound,” the truck driver said.
Because he was saved from at kid that was unwound he wanted to help Connor out of his jam, so he let him sleep in the back on the truck. Connor woke up to the sound of his cell phone ringing, it was his parents, and since he wanted nothing to do with them he ignored it. Then he noticed that the truck stop, he went outside and saw the truck driver in handcuffs and policemen pointing their guns at Connor.

I could never imagine my parents just giving up on me and letting it so the government would kill me like I was nothing. I am glad that this does not happen in real life, this country would be a lot dark place if it was. This does remind me of an episode of Law and Order however. That was about a 12 year old boy that was arrested for raping some of his classmate, and when the father found out, he wonted nothing to do with his kid.

Prison Break

Know that the high leader has sent Jace to prison he has to say his final good byes before he leaves for an unknown amount of time. It took a long time for Jace to get to the prison, and it was like nothing he would have ever expected. When he got there, there was a guard to take him and a touch to bring Jace to his cell. They walked for a while down many flights of stares. When they finally got to the cell the only light was coming from the touch that the guard had brought with him. When the guard put Jace in his cell and started to walk away Jace started to think, but before long he started hearing a noise, the noise started to get louder and louder. With it being pitch dark and not being able to see anything, Jace for the first time, was scared. When the sound got right nest to the door, it all of a sudden stopped, and the door to his cell opened but there was nothing there. Jace walked out of the cell and started walking, trying to find a touch that would allow him to see. That is were the chapter ended with Jace walking around the prison trying to escape or find some answers.

I would never be able to go through the things that Jace went through when he was at the prison. Being in all dark with no noise would be unbearable. Whenever I read a book that has something to do with jail, police or criminals it reminds me of my favorite T.V. show NCIS. NCIS is about Navy cops which I always enjoy watching. The only problem with The City of Ash is that it started out strong but now the book is starting to get a little boring for my taste. I will read a few more chapters in the book, but if it doesn’t pick up I might get a new book.

The Judge

The next part of the book was that a high leader in the shadowhunters was coming in to talk to Jace about what happen with his time with Valentine. They were concerned that Valentine had turned Jace to his side and was wondering how far if any he was gone. Before the high leader come everyone wanted to be by Jace’s side, but Jace only wanted two, Clair and Luke. When it came time for the High Leader to come everyone was nerves because if Jace failed he would be sent to one the worse jails in all of Jaces home country. When the High leader finally showed up, her and Jace sat down together and talked about what happened when he was kidnapped. She started asking him really personal questions like did you know he was your father, do you remember his mother, are you going to help out your father. The high leader was starting to make Jace very angry with all the close and personal questions that he was being asked. Jace had his pride however, even though that Valentine was a horrible person he was but he was not going to sell out his own father, and with that he started telling the high leader off. With Jace telling the high leader off got her angry at Jace and said “I will get the respect I deserve, especially for someone like you. After that she said that Jace was going to go to jail until he is willing to cooperate.

The only thing that I can think of that reminds me of this is those really mean substitute teachers that think to highly of themselves and they think there rules are more important then what the normal teacher has taught you. It must have been really hard for Jace to sit there and not be able to do anything about it. I thought it was really good that even though he was threatened he would not give up his beliefs and wouldn’t sell out his father.

The next part in the book jumps to a girl named Maia that didn't really fit into her life, she talks about how she used to date Jace and they had and really bad relationship and a bad brake up. Then one day she was coming home and was attack by something that she had no clue what it was but she did think it was a wolf.

A few days later when there was a full moon, she blacked out and woke up the next morning and had no memories of what has happened. Without knowing what has happened to her she ran away to try to find some answers. The next thing you know she had found out that she was a werewolf and had joined a pack. They are at a bar were the pack is always at when all of a sudden Jace walks into the bar and Maia is surprised that Jace is there. All the other werewolves in the bar start giving Jace dirty looks and one walks up to him tell him the that he doesn’t belong there. With Jace not paying any attention to the werewolf that is trying to get him to leave, making the werewolf mad he starts to attack Jace. The werewolf is no match for Jace and was easily taken down. The next thing we know is that another werewolf runs into the bar yelling for every one to come quick a cub was just killed. Everyone runs out and see a dead cub in an ally with his throat cut, the rest of the chapter is the werewolves trying to find the person how did it with little luck.

Werewolves have always been my favorite mythical creatures, mostly because they are strong, fierce, and it is really hard for them to be killed. Whenever I think of werewolf I always think of the movie Van Halsing because to me it has the coolest werewolves and the coolest fight scenes in it. Here is a link to the movie review.
